At intive, we recognize that a seamless combination of UX design and engineering is key to creating outstanding digital products. This year we’ve been presented with yet another token of recognition for our pursuit of excellence: together with our long-standing client Vorwerk we have won one of the most prestigious design prizes in the world - the UX Design Award.
Vorwerk and intive first started working together back in 2012. The original goal of the cooperation was to bring Vorwerk’s premium multifunctional kitchen appliance – the Thermomix® – into the new era. What began as a single venture, has quickly evolved into a deep-rooted partnership resulting in multiple joint projects, including the design and development of the Cookidoo® - a dedicated recipe platform, and the accompanying mobile apps that take cooking to a whole new level.
For many years now, the intive design team has been working hand-in-hand with Vorwerk to constantly upgrade and improve the state-of-the-art Cookidoo® ecosystem that interconnects cooking, planning and shopping. Even though Cookidoo® offers 75,000 ready recipes, the customers’ community had for some time wished to be able to add their own favorites to the original cookbook as well.
To meet the customers’ expectations of individualization and personalization, intive and Vorwerk have together designed and developed a new feature called “Created Recipes” that allows users to create, import and modify favorite recipes, save them all in one place and cook them with Thermomix®.
“Cookidoo’s new “Created Recipes” feature reflects 3 design principles: it’s human, relevant and easy. We’ve tested its usability via a qualitative, task-based interview approach. We’ve focused on creating a powerful tool that allows user to manage and use all recipes seamlessly on all touchpoints”, said Stefan Bickelmann, Principal Design Strategist at intive.
The results of this year’s UX Design Award competition are proof that intive and Vorwerk design teams have been really successful at meeting customer needs. The Cookidoo® project, enriched with its new personalized recipes feature, has been selected out of more than 300 submissions from 58 countries, and has won the UX Design Award in the Public Choice category. The worldwide audience has recognized the unique, modern-day cooking experience and outstanding design of Cookidoo®.
“We are so lucky to have a very large, enthusiastic and devoted customer base, who were keenly awaiting this feature. I’d like to give a big shout-out to the whole UX team, who championed the customer vision, and all those who helped make it a reality. We’ve only just started down this journey and we are looking forward to expanding the functionality further to really unleash our customers’ creativity in the kitchen”, said Grant Harvison, Global Partnership Manager, Product Manager at Vorwerk, during the virtual awards ceremony.
It’s worth highlighting that this year’s award is already the fourth industry recognition for Cookidoo®. Previously, the same design team was honored with a UX Design Award in the ‘Product’ category of 2019 UX Design Awards in Berlin (IDZ), as well as the prestigious Red Dot Award: Brands & Communication Design 2019, and an iF DESIGN AWARD 2020. Considering the people-centric approach and continuous evolvement of the Cookidoo® platform, it seems very likely that the latest UX Design award is not going to be the last one for the two partners.
